Healthy, Whole-Food Recipes - A Specific MS Diet
I firmly believe that a special, whole-food based MS diet is the key to proactively taming your Multiple Sclerosis. Certainly the ever evolving medication is important and should not be neglected. But it should not be the only weapon in your arsenal.
Something as malicious as MS should be attacked from all different angles. You should leverage every available tool to fight and there is one powerful and often neglected tool at your disposal every day: your diet.
Not too long after my own Multiple Sclerosis diagnosis in 2015 and the subsequent grieving process, I started researching what could be done. I am a biochemist by trade, so the only approach I knew was quite scientific.
So I gathered, reviewed, and analyzed any scientific material I could get my hands-on. By the way, at that time I worked for CAS, the good folks that gave us SciFinder® - so when I say a lot, I really mean it.
MS Whole-food Diet as the Missing Link
One aspect I quickly noticed was an overwhelming, and sometimes exclusive, focus of research and doctors on medication alone.
Proven lifestyle impacts, like diets and meditation, on the disease progression were largely ignored, neglected, or even belittled.
This impression was also confirmed by my first neurologist who seemed to have been largely in the dark about the power of diet lifestyle choices for patients with Multiple Sclerosis and other chronic inflammatory diseases.
He actually recommended his favorite donut store to me. Well, recommending this notoriously high sugar, high saturated fat and high trans fat "snack" is probably not even a good idea for patients without MS, but for someone suffering from MS this advice is actually as good as sending a recovering alcoholic to that really great and new Whiskey bar in town.
The Mission & MS Recipes
From the day of this "advice" it has become my mission to bridge the information and research gap between evidence of diet benefits and MS and the current dogma of the medical world which seems to mostly to rely on pharmaceuticals.
Some hospitals and doctors will mention in a side-note that "healthy eating" will be beneficial for MS patients. However, this doesn't leave most patients with anything specific to execute. It is my intention with this website to provide you with plenty of easy to execute "healthy eating" alternatives.
So let's get started and let's ramp-up our weapons at our disposal to combat MS. Together we will prepare delicious food that will empower your body to tame your Multiple Sclerosis.
